Twelve hours, 40 kilometres, 5200ft of elevation – Three Peaks
Saturday 13th of August saw fundraising hikers raise an incredible £9,450 for the Foundation, tackling Yorkshire’s Three Peaks.
Fifteen walkers and three volunteering team leaders conquered Pen-y-ghent (2,227ft), Whernside (2,415ft) and Ingleborough (2,372ft) of the Pennine range in Yorkshire.
The fundraisers set off at seven o’clock on Saturday morning ahead of the 12-hour expedition in soaring temperatures. Tarmac nearing treacle underfoot, followed by scraggy hillside paths and straw-like grass, made for challenging walking conditions throughout the day.
A pub dinner and an abundance of refreshments following the final descent marked a fine incentive for all participating, and more than sufficed as a celebratory conclusion to the day.
Senior Fundraising and Events Manager, Emma Fletcher-Dungay said:
“Last year we had extremely tough conditions because of the torrential rain – this year the walkers had to battle intense heat. How they managed to achieve what they did is incredible, they really had to work hard.
“Another fantastic amount of money has been raised which will really help make a difference to so many.”
