This year saw a tale of Three Peaks as Foundation fundraisers tackled Britain's three greatest climbs in an exhibition of weather conditions
Last weekend, fundraisers hit the three highest points in Scotland, England and Wales, raising over £10,000 for the Foundation.
The participants departed The Nest at 7:30am on Thursday, 7th July, in bright spirits ahead of a long-haul drive up to Fort William in Scotland.
After an evening of team building and mingling, the group set off for Ben Nevis the following morning.
In typical Scottish fashion, the walkers were met with a thick, misty rain that kindly accompanied them for the entire ascent, and most of the way down.
However, a short break in the weather was granted upon return to base for some much-deserved hot drinks and sandwiches.
Just eight hours later, with waterproof ponchos and head-torches at the ready, it was time to conquer Cumbria’s Scafell Pike, setting off just shy of 10pm.
Despite the darkness, a gentle breeze brought the small consolation of no midges present to swarm, bite or bother the determined walkers.
As the group finished their descent of the second of the Three Peaks, they were this time met with pasta and a BBQ to celebrate their feat, and rest their feet ahead of the final day.
Day three presented the third and final peak of the challenge – Snowdon.
Fortunately, Wales brought its best with blue skies and beaming sunshine – raising spirits exponentially.
After an ascent made much easier by the gorgeous weather, the teams returned to base after fewer than six hours, to enjoy a much-deserved cold beverage.
The Three Peaks were conquered in just under 32 hours!
Thank you to Coastal Construction, our sponsor for the Challenge Events Series, for their continued support.
Thanks must also go to Norfolk Hire for their continued support and allowing use of their vehicles as we continue to tackle fundraising challenges and raise money for The Foundation.
Finally, a special thanks to our team leaders who guided the walkers up and down the mountain and our volunteer drivers who navigated great distances through late hours and difficult conditions to ensure our walkers could remain on schedule.
Senior Fundraising & Events Manager Emma Fletcher-Dungay, who led the trip, said:
“Despite very difficult conditions on the first two mountains, the walkers’ spirits weren’t dampened, and they were rewarded with amazing sunshine and sights on Snowdon. On behalf of The Foundation, I would like to say a massive thank you for what is one of the toughest challenges we put on.”
