Over 225 quizzers come together at Carrow Road for fifth iteration of annual quiz

Big visuals, celebrity hosts, a sprinkling of Norwich City FC player questions – the Foundation’s annual charity quiz event returned to Carrow Road last night for nine closely contested rounds of quizzing action.

A record thirty-eight teams battled it out for the accolade of this year’s ‘On the Buzzer City, Quiz’ champions, in the Top of the Terrace lounge.

Former Canary Adrian Forbes and BBC Norfolk’s Rob Butler, who hosted the event last year, were back on centre stage once again as the lively quiz-masters.

The teams went head-to-head across the usual mixture of history, music, film, science, current affairs and sports rounds. Norwich City FC’s Matt Jarvis, Gary O’Neil, Declan Rudd and GK coach Dean Kiely each contributed with a video-question, while the “mystery guest” visiting a CSF partner-school was City midfielder Graham Dorrans.

Proving they were no ‘numpties’ at general knowledge, the quiz was eventually won by Nelson’s Numpties, who claimed a variety of winners’ prizes including Norwich City FC match day tickets.

Competition was fierce, however, with rival teams on the night including CSF business partners Steeles Law, NORSE, Holden, Riverside Leisure Centre, Cafe2U, club partners Fosters Solicitors and Langley School, and supporter groups including PUPs and the Norwich City Fans Social Club.

Teams from Archant, NEXT, Sainsbury’s and Halifax, among others, made up the rest of the quizzer pool.

Aside from the quiz action, the annual balloon raffle saw a wide range of gifts snapped up, including two annual Hollywood Cinema passes, signed Norwich City memorabilia, and much more. £2,617 was raised from the evening for CSF’s Sporting Light Appeal.

Emma Fletcher, CSF Fundraising Officer, reflected: “It was the fifth year of the quiz, and we’re delighted with the huge turnout.

“The atmosphere was fantastic – everyone really dug deep on the balloon raffle, and the proceeds will all go towards our work with local disadvantaged and disabled individuals.

“A massive thanks to Adrian Forbes and Rob Butler, who gave up their own time to host the event, plus all our business supporters who donated a raffle prize. It was a memorable evening.”

The Community Sports Foundation wishes to thank the following companies for their generous donations: Middletons Steak House, CGH, Norwich Evening News, Norwich Ghost Walks, Norwich Castle, Hollywood Cinemas, Booja Booja, Dunston Hall, Cafe2U, Sponge and Mantra.
