PL Primary Stars U11 Girl's Regional Tournament Recap
On Thursday 14th March, six squads of Under 11 girls arrived at The Nest for a day of enthralling tournament football.
Representing their respective Foundations, the teams from Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester, Peterborough, Boston and Cambridge were playing for a chance to qualify for the next round of the competition and to lift the trophy come the end of the day.
Before our teams could take to the turf however, there was an hour long ‘Gender Equality’ workshop to look forward to, where the young academics learnt more about gender stereotypes, and how any job is possible if you work hard enough to achieve it.
An afternoon of football in the spring sunshine soon followed, with every team going toe to toe in some tightly-contested encounters. With some terrific teamwork on display, as well as super goals and even better saves, it was Norwich and Colchester who walked onto the pitch to battle it out in the final. The crowd roaring them on, the team in yellow and green were the ones with their hands held high come the final whistle.
Following on from the footballing entertainment, our six teams headed inside for the trophy presentations with rewards for winners Norwich and runners-up Colchester, as well as a fair play award for outstanding teamwork, which was awarded to Cambridge. The presentations were led by Norwich City Women first-teamers; Katie Knights and Olivia Cook, who also presented every participant with a congratulatory certificate.
Everyone at the Foundation would like to take the time to personally commend everyone who took part in this years Premier League Primary Stars tournament, there was some brilliant football on display.
