Last week our Premier League Kicks programme hosted a media workshop day for their aspiring ‘Kicks Ambassadors’.
The Kicks Ambassador scheme aims to get current PL Kicks participants at the Foundation to complete a number of tasks set out by their programme leads. If they are successful in doing so, they will officially become a Kicks Ambassador and return to their sessions to inspire others to follow in their footsteps.
The media workshop sought to give participants an insight into sports media through talks from a number of guest speakers. These speakers included; Digital Media Editor for the Community Sports Foundation/ photographer for Norwich City Women, Alex Guest, Marketing and Communications Officer for the Foundation/ match-day social media for Norwich City Women, Hamish Rogers and BBC Radio Norfolk voice/ EDP writer, Jack Maclean.
The guests each spoke for around ten minutes, outlining their backgrounds, journey into media, recent experiences, and how the Kicks Ambassadors could follow similar paths.
The participants then tried their hand and some multi-media workshops; firstly writing a few paragraphs of a match report based on the game they had attended the weekend prior, before acting out interviewer and player/ manager scenarios in the hot seat in the media suite.
The day ended with televising a series of iconic commentary moments, such as the Troy Deeney and Sergio Aguero goals, where the Kicks participants would emulate some of their favourite moments in football as the goals played on screen.

Premier League Kicks Youth Worker, Tom Bardwell-Doughty, said:
“The Kicks Ambassadorship pilot scheme has proved highly successful in providing experiences of pathways for our participants.
“It’s a huge privilege to be able to have football delivered by trained professionals and to benefit from talks from the likes of Norfolk Wildlife Trust and Community Sports Foundation staff about their work, strengthening our links into volunteering pathways.”
“We hope to make the programme accessible to more young people going forward and give them valuable experience in as many avenues they may not otherwise have access in.”
Kicks targets young people (age 8 to 18) who have previously proven difficult to reach and helps guide them towards a range of sporting activities, using football as the main engagement tool.
To date our Kicks project has been a huge success, contributing to a reduction in anti-social behaviour and crime within local communities, whilst improving sport engagement.
