On the Buzzer, City! Recap
On the Buzzer, City! Quiz returned to Carrow Road last night, with 27 teams of six competing for the trophy and the bragging rights.
Welcomed with a Top Gun-themed intro video, returning host, BBC Radio’s Rob Butler led the teams through ten rounds of competitive quizzing action, accompanied by a raspy-voiced Dan Wynne and a nervous Hamish Rogers, who was making his On The Buzzer, City! debut.
Norwich City FC’s Angus Gunn, Todd Cantwell and Liam Gibbs chipped in with a number of recorded video questions, with rounds covering sport, general knowledge, geography, history, music, current affairs, film & tv and more.
With just 10 points separating the top five, the quiz proved as competitive as ever and with the winners of the 2019 quiz still very much in contention, the opportunity to retain the trophy was well in-play.
This indeed came to fruition, as 2019 winners The Muppets, now rebranded as Trust Us, retained the coveted trophy for another year notching 78 points. A tie for second saw Game for a Laugh and The One-Fingered Typists collect 72 points each, whilst I Bet We… Good on the Quiz Floor! took home third place with 70.
The winning prize haul included mini trophies, a bottle of celebratory wine, and of course the honour of lifting the famous quiz trophy, which will forever have their names inscribed.
A balloon raffle, and head ‘n’ tails round helped bring the total from the evening north of £5000, which was bolstered by some extremely generous auction bids, as four lucky bidders took home signed Sargent and Rashica shirts and two squad-signed Championship match balls respectively.
A huge thank you to our host, Rob Butler who gave his time up for free to host the evening whilst tolerating Dan and Hamish.
Thank you also to Orange Fox Electrical for sponsoring the event and assembling a fantastic team to take part!
A final thank you to all of the contributors to our raffle prizes: Norwich City FC, Turtle Bay, Morrisons, Banham Zoo, LoganAir, The Real Greek, Mini Cooper, Middletons, Norfolk Premier Golf, Woodforde Brewery, Jimmy’s Farm, Roys of Wroxham, Oakwood Nails, Park Farm and Kings Head Bawburgh.
