Participants in our NCS programme support community groups and raise money for charities

On Wednesday, 10th of August, one of our National Citizen Service groups paid a visit to Ellacombe Care Home in Norwich, who specialise in care for people with dementia.

The participants played games, socialised and soaked up some sunshine with the care home residents.

This is just one of many social projects that each group carried out throughout the summer in a bid to raise both spirits and money across Norfolk.

The National Citizen Service provides young people aged between 15-17 (Year 11 & 12) with the opportunity to take part in residential camps and volunteering projects in their local communities.

The first four weeks of this year’s programme has seen 383 young participants complete an astonishing 8610 volunteering hours (around 22 hours each) raising a sum exceeding £2,500 for various charities.

Some of the charitable events carried out during week three alone, included; litter picking, a 15km sponsored walk, primary school tidy-ups, supermarket bag-packing and a number of charity sales and tombolas.

These schemes helped to raise money for charities such as Mind, SEN Network, Big C, and On The Ball City.
