International Women's Day 2023
To celebrate International Women's Day 2023, we hosted a special event at The Nest for girls from local schools.
International Women’s Day 2023 was celebrated in style at The Nest today, as girls from local schools joined us for a day of inspiring workshops and tournament action.
To start the day, our visiting schools tackled International Women’s Day-inspired team challenges focussed around inspirational female figures such as Lauren Hemp, Michelle Obama and Jessica Ennis-Hill.
The girls were then tasked with writing down what empowers them and why, relating these back to the role models they had previously discussed.
The morning concluded with a number of guest speakers including; Community Sports Foundation Head of Development Jackie Thornton, former Norwich City Women’s player Emily Moerkerk, and Norwich City’s Head of Emerging Talent, Mariela Nisotaki.
The three spoke about their respective journeys in and around football and the obstacles and adversities they had to overcome along the way.
They were then joined by Lauren Blyth, Head of Engagement and Delivery at Norwich City, for a Q&A session, giving the girls the chance to answer any follow-up questions.
In the afternoon, the girls bravely withstood some near-arctic conditions to play a league-style tournament to compete for the 2023 International Women’s Day Cup!
The grand final saw Flegg High Ormiston Academy take on Pakefield School, with the latter emerging victorious!
The two finalists were presented with medals by Norwich City Women’s captain, Millie Daviss, with a further player being presented with a ‘Most Influential Female’ award for outstanding efforts throughout the day.
Well done to everybody who took part and thank you to partners, BizClik Media, for sponsoring the event.
A final thank you must go to our incredible Schools team at the Foundation for all of their efforts in putting this event together.
