Fundraising Golf Day raises £7,685 for the Foundation

On September 15th our Team Gunn vs. Team Ashton Fundraising Golf Day, sponsored by BBA Digital, returned to Royal Norwich Golf Course.

A brisk Thursday morning turned to spells of sunshine and sprinklings of rain from overcast clouds, as 23 teams took to the tees of the gorgeous golf course.

In the highest of stakes on the first tee, Dean and Bryan were able to exchange a smile and handshake before returning to their usual competitive-selves as tee touched turf.

While the typical 18-hole procession took place, a number of sub-competitions kept affairs interesting, with participants competing for longest-drive, beat-the-pro, putting competition, nearest the pin, and nearest the pin in two.

Once off the course, the players were treated to brilliant bar service from the amicable Royal Norwich staff, followed by a feast of a barbeque and assortment of salads and side dishes.

Then came the prize-giving, and with 23 teams competing this year, chances of a repeating the previous event and finishing in a tie was impossible right? Wrong.

The first 12 matchups were counted – 6 points apiece.

11 points were up for grabs in the remaining matchups, so in theory, 5.5 points each was possible should one of the matches finish in a tie…

But this was not to be the case this year. A result of 6.5 to 4.5 on the flip side of the card saw Team Ashton retain the trophy with a 12.5 to 10.5 victory over Team Gunn.

In as magnanimous fashion as always – Bryan summarised the result beautifully, “there’s only one winner today – the Community Sports Foundation”.

The total sum raised after costs was an incredible £7,685 thanks to the 92 golfers’ sponsorship of Dean and Bryan, reinforced by their extremely generous raffle entries and auction bids for various events and signed memorabilia.

Thanks

Thank you to Gunny and Dean for once again hosting the event, and congratulations to Team Ashton for retaining the trophy for another year.

Thanks again to our main sponsor BBA Digital Media for their contributions towards the event and constructing a fine team to compete.
