Corporate Cup 2024 - Recap

On Thursday 9th May, The Nest welcomed back the Corporate Cup, for the third annual instalment of the ever-popular footballing event.

Contrary to last year’s thunderous conditions, the morning of 2024’s Corporate Cup dawned bright and clear, with picturesque blue skies.

It wasn’t long before competitors began to arrive, taking to the turf early to check out the playing conditions. In total, 27 teams flocked to The Nest, ready to go toe to toe in a bid to become Norfolk’s six-a-side champions.

The teams were split into four groups – with all parties chasing the same objective – finish in the top two of their group, in order to progress to the knockout stages.

The quality of football was high throughout the opening few matches, with quick passing and fast feet resulting in some high scoring games – whilst other fixtures went right down to the wire, due to a series of resolute defensive performances.

Upon the conclusion of the group fixtures, which involved a series of stunning saves and superb goals, it was Norfolk Hire, Howes Percival, Yellow Brick Mortgages, Audeo FS, JLL Celtics, Minors & Brady, Pink Group and M+A Partners who all progressed into the quarter finals, with our very own ‘CSF Yellows’ narrowly missing out on goal difference.

With the pressure now on, the competitive nature of knockout football kicked in, with the remaining teams all ramping up their performances in a bid to progress to the semi-final stage.

Event sponsors Yellow Brick Mortgages were the standout performers of the final eight, with their comfortable victory over Audeo FS setting up a semi-final tie against Norfolk Hire, with the corresponding fixture seeing last year’s champions Pink Group face off against M+A partners.

Both semi-finals were tightly-contested duels, with the Pink Group vs M+A partners game tied at 2-2 after regulation time, meaning the growing crowds were treated to their first penalty shoot-out of the day, with last year’s champions Pink Group prevailing under the pressure to book their place in the final two.

On the adjacent pitch, the impressive Yellow Brick Mortgages edged out stern opposition in Norfolk Hire, scoring late to grab a 2-1 victory.

The perimeter of the pitch was lined with spectators for the 2024 Corporate Cup final, with many wanting nothing less than an entertaining ten minutes of football.

They weren’t disappointed – it was Pink Group who struck early, with a fine finish into the roof of the net, although this was quickly followed by a emphatic finish from their opposition, to tie the scores at 1-1. With the game finely poised going into the final five minutes, Yellow Brick Mortgages seized the initiative and put the game to bed, scoring three goals in quick succession, one directly from a corner.

Our Corporate Cup winners and runners-up then headed indoors to receive their team trophies, with individual prizes also presented to Player of the Tournament, Goal of the Tournament and to the Golden Glove winner.

The Community Sports Foundation would like to thank event sponsors Yellow Brick Mortgages for helping to support such a fantastic day of football, and also to congratulate every team who entered this years Corporate Cup – your participation helped to raise a stunning £6500 for the charity.

A further special mention must be given to Woodforde’s, who helped supply the prizes to this year’s winners and runners-up.

The money raised will go towards aiding disabled and disadvantaged people across Norfolk.
