City walking football squad finish second at EFL tournament
Norwich City’s walking football squad have finished runners-up at this year’s English Football League Trust (EFL) Walking Football Cup.
The competition took place at the home of England football – St George’s Park – last week and saw ten teams battle it out to become champions.
Off to a perfect start, the Canaries completed three comfortable victories against Bradford City, Grimsby Town and Barnet FC.
A 2-0 victory against Portsmouth FC in the semi-final secured a place in the final but despite a valiant effort, the Yellows were beaten 1-0 by reigning champions Sheffield United.
Former Leeds footballer Norman Hunter, who was part of the 1966 FIFA World Cup winning squad, presented the team with their runner-up shield (pictured below left). Tom Charlton, brother of Jack and Bobby, also attended the day.
CSF Walking Football Manager Darren Hunter said:
“It’s been a good chance for the squad to represent Norwich City, wear the club badge and play against other league clubs. I’m proud of the team for coming this far.
“A massive well done to the team from me and everyone at the Foundation.”
Walking football has proved a great success across the country and is a fantastic way to keep in shape, socialise and keep active. It allows people to reignite their passion for football, despite injury or illness, simply by slowing things down.
