Walkers Rise to the Challenge

Over 70 fundraisers complete the 2014 Coastal Walk Challenge

It was a scene of emotion and exhaustion at Cromer Pier on Saturday morning as over 70 brave walkers overcame blisters, cramps and fatigue to complete the 2014 Coastal Walk Challenge.

Starting in Hunstanton on Friday morning, the team walked the 47 miles to Cromer along the Norfolk Coast Path, in 24 gruelling hours that included the dreaded shingle banks of Cley and Beeston Bump.

It was the fourth and largest Coastal Walk Challenge so far, which is part of the Sporting Light Appeal's fundraising for the Community Sports Foundation, helping disadvantaged and disabled people in Norfolk to enjoy the benefits of sport.

Among the team was CSF Health Development Officer Toby Nickerson who explained the brutal nature of the 24 hour challenge:

"It was the hardest thing I've ever done, both physically and mentally.

"There were moments where we all struggled but there was a great team spirit throughout and we dragged each other along.

"We were all a bit emotional at the end and filled with a real sense of achievement."

Afterwards, the team enjoyed a well-deserved brunch at The Grove while comparing injuries and stories from their adventure.
