Triumph for ′Norwich City A′
CSF's walking football team are one step closer to Wembley
The Community Sports Foundation’s (CSF) walking football team, ‘Norwich City A’ have reached the national semi-finals of the FA People’s Cup.
The Canary representatives performed brilliantly to win the regional tournament, which returned for the third year last weekend.
In the final, New Saints Beccles held a 2-0 lead before ‘Norwich City A’ scored twice and the game finished 2-2 after extra time.
CSF’s walking football team won on penalties and will now go through to the semi-finals, which will take place on the weekend of March 25th- 26th in Peterborough.
‘Norwich City B’ also represented CSF in the walking football category on the day but despite winning all three of their group games, the squad were knocked out in the semi-final stage.
CSF Health Engagement Officer Ashley Fountain said:
“It was fantastic to see the guys getting stuck into the competition. With the chance to go to the FA Cup Final up for grabs it was all to play for!
“Well done to both teams for their brilliant attitude and for putting in so much effort - we now look forward to the semi-finals.”
The competition is now in its third full season, beginning in 2015 with 30,000 people taking part in its first year. Last year, it returned with more than 35,000 players entering from over 4,000 teams across the country.
A closely fought finals day was held in Sheffield and the eventual winners from each category were invited to attend the Emirates FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium.
