CSF′s festival of football shines at Easton & Otley College
The fourteenth annual Community Sports Foundation Summer Cup took place over the weekend at Easton & Otley College’s main campus near Norwich.
Occasional showers did little to dampen the festival atmosphere, which saw over 650 games played out across the weekend, across twelve different age categories.
Over 51 clubs from across Norfolk & Suffolk were in attendance, with 194 teams entered across the two days.
It was the first year the event has been hosted at Easton & Otley College, which is also a Community Sports Foundation Hub site. The excellent catering, facilities, and grounds all provided a memorable backdrop to the tournament.
In the Under 10s tournament, Gorleston Rangers saw off Costessey Jets in the final, the latter having played out a lengthy penalty shootout in the Semi Finals against another team from their club, the Turbos.
The final in a competitive Under 12s category, saw Lakeford Rangers beat Diss Town (Tornadoes), having already met earlier in the group stages.
The Girls tournaments on the Saturday were round-robin formats, with Taverham winning the mixed Under 11/12 category and Hellesdon winning the Under 13/14 section.
Taverham enjoyed a busy Summer Cup, claiming a second and third piece of silverware on the Sunday, their Under 9s and Under 11s boys teams both triumphant in their respective tournaments.
The Under 13s competition was played in a round robin format, with Firside teams finishing first and second – the Reds pipping the Whites to the top spot.
The Under 7s and 8s age groups were non-competitive, but gave many of the participants their first taste of tournament football.
Away from the match action, the Sporting Light Appeal area was its usual hive of activity, with raffles and a number of fun football challenges to partake in.
Pan-Disability Groups, who are funded by the Appeal, had a special mini tournament session on the Saturday, with a full kit provided courtesy of Macron Store Norwich.
Special thanks to Booker of Lowestoft for providing water for the hydration station and Link Radio for supporting on-site communication for the CSF team.
