Jess going for gold!
Paralympic champion seeks to defend title in Rio
CSF Ambassador Jessica-Jane Applegate MBE is putting in a final week of preparation ahead of the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro which starts up on September 7th.
The 20-year-old, who has learning difficulties, will be representing Paralympics GB across various swimming disciplines including the S14 100m Backstroke, S14 200m Freestyle and S14 200m Individual Medley.
The City of Norwich Swimming Club member has already enjoyed huge success having won numerous medals and titles at international and national level.
At just sixteen, she made her Paralympic debut at London 2012, memorably winning gold in the S14 200m Freestyle event in a Paralympic record time of 2:12.63.
She has since followed up her London success with a world championship title in the S14 100m Backstroke at Glasgow last year.
Jessica-Jane secured her place in Rio at this year’s British Para-Swimming International Meet in Glasgow, qualifying with a time of 2:05.63 minutes in the women’s S14 200m Freestyle final.
CSF Director Ian Thornton said he wished the Norfolk star, who has been supported by funds raised through the Foundation, every success in the imminent competition:
"The opportunity to compete at this level is something every athlete strives for. Jessica-Jane has overcome significant personal challenges to take her place beside the best in the world and she is as an inspiration to us all.
“We will all be watching at home and cheering her on every step of the way.”
The Rio 2016 Paralympic Games take place between 7th-18th September. More information is available here.
