Girls' Football Pathway

Delivering a pathway where girls can reach their potential both on and off the pitch

The Girls’ Football & Education Pathway is designed to help young females reach their full potential through football.

Our pathway, which can be downloaded above, includes community football for those who are newer to the game, our development programmes for U8s-U16s with talent and potential, and our U16-19 programme, which combines further education with training and competitive fixtures. At the top of the pathway is the Norwich City Women’s First Team.

U8-U16

We deliver our U8-U16 pathway across a tiered system, through the Academy Development Programme (ADP), the Advanced Development Centre (ADC) and Development Centre (DC).

Alongside our own programmes, we are delivering an Emerging Talent Centre on behalf of the FA for the 2022/23 season.

There also numerous opportunities for girls to get involved in football at grassroots level with the Foundation through Soccer Schools, taster sessions, schools tournaments and Premier League funded initiatives.

The Academy Development Programme is the top tier of our provision.

Training takes place weekly at The Nest over 32 weeks of the season (1.5hr sessions).

A fixture programme across the season sees matches against the likes of Chelsea, Crystal Palace and local mixed teams, as well as opportunities to take part in festivals, development days tournaments and tours.

The Advanced Development Centre forms the second tier of our provision.

Training takes place weekly evenings in Norwich over 32 weeks of the season (1.5hr sessions).

A fixture programme across the season sees matches against the likes of Colchester United, Reading and Peterborough United, as well as opportunities to take part in festivals, development days tournaments and tours.

Goalkeepers train in specific goalkeeper sessions at our Girls Goalkeeping Centre located at Brundall Sports Hub. They will join their Girls’ teammates for fixtures and set sessions throughout the season.

The Girls Goalkeeper Development Centre offers goalkeepers the chance to receive quality technical coaching sessions, across 32 weeks, at a new central location of Brundall Sports Hub.

DC Goalkeepers will also be offered the chance to attend four Goalkeeper Development Days during half-terms at a central Norwich venue.

While the primary focus of the GK DC is to deliver a technical training programme, there will be select opportunities for players to take part in both an internal fixture programme, and to be selected to play in DC representative fixtures.

The Development Centre forms the third tier of our provision.

Training takes place weekly evenings at Kirkley and Pakefield FC (Monday) and the FDC Bowthorpe Park (Tuesday) over 32 weeks (1.5 hr training sessions).

Players can also benefit from development days, tours, festivals and tournaments across the year.

The FA Emerging Talent Centre is part of the FA girls’ talent pathway and will be delivered by the Norwich City Community Sports Foundation on behalf of the FA.

The national network of girls’ ETCs are be aimed at girls aged eight to 16. The new centres will operate for at least 30 weeks per season and will commence from September 2022. The centres will be underpinned by five key areas:

1. Better accessibility
2. More inclusivity
3. Reducing the impact of early selection
4. More focused investment
5. Providing more appropriate challenges

"Chloe had the best time yesterday at the match: what an amazing opportunity, she was buzzing all the way home! All the extra opportunities to play in games have been brilliant. She doesn't have much confidence or self belief and this has all helped."
